In this journal I am going to go over a simple hair shader template that I use frequently. Transparency First things first. A doa hair shader needs transparency. The principled shader actually has an alpha slot you can connect the diffuse texture's alpha channel to. This is great, but also not great if we want to expand the solid part of the hair with more shaders. For this reason we fall back on the classic mix shader approach for transparency. Added Translucency The solid part of the hair begins with an add shader to add translucency to the hair. Translucency is an effect where light shines through a material and the backside of the material lights up. Think of a leaf you hold up against the sun. The backside becomes bright because light is shining through it. The translucency shader only has an effect when the material is back lit. Its color and strength will thus be added to the back side of hair that is in shadow. This is why an add shader used. The principled shader handles
